Summer is one of the best times of year to get outdoors and make the most of everything the county has to offer, especially if you’re searching for things to do in Buckinghamshire this weekend.
Here at Hogshaw Farm & Wildlife Park, we’ve already seen families making the most of the longer days, sunshine and school holiday excitement. Whether you’re planning a spontaneous day out with the children, entertaining visiting relatives or simply looking for somewhere everyone can enjoy together, there are plenty of ways to fill a summer weekend in Buckinghamshire.
For us, the best days out combine fresh air, hands-on experiences and the freedom to explore at your own pace. That’s exactly what summer on the farm is all about.
The Best Things to Do in Buckinghamshire This Summer With Kids
When families ask us for recommendations for things to do in Buckinghamshire this weekend, our answer is often the same: get outside.
Summer transforms the countryside. Animals are more active, outdoor play areas come into their own and there are opportunities to spend entire days exploring without feeling rushed.
One of the things we love most about this time of year is seeing families arrive in the morning and stay until closing time because there’s simply so much to see and do. From meeting animals and enjoying daily encounters to exploring play areas and nature trails, summer creates the perfect setting for family adventures.
What’s Happening at Hogshaw Farm This Summer?
Summer 2026 is shaping up to be one of our busiest and most exciting yet.
Our farm park is currently open from 10:00am to 5:30pm, giving families plenty of time to enjoy everything on offer. During school holidays we’re open daily, while term-time visitors can join us Wednesday through Sunday.
As always, admission includes access to our animal zones, adventure play areas and our daily programme of animal encounters. That means you can watch birds of prey displays, get closer to our deer, enjoy interactive keeper talks for some of our animals and learn more from the team who care for them every day.
Families visiting this summer can also enjoy:
- Rare breed farm animals and European wildlife
- Deer Meadow
- Goat and rabbit walkthrough areas
- Adventure playgrounds
- Pedal go-karts
- Bouncy pillows
- Sand and water play
- Indoor soft play for those occasional rainy moments
You can explore everything included in your visit at https://hogshawfarm.co.uk/explore-the-farm/.
Get Closer With Our Animal Experiences
One thing that’s proving especially popular this summer is our growing range of private animal experiences.
If you’ve ever wanted to hand-feed a Highland Cow, spend time with our reindeer, meet our playful ferrets or get closer to our lynx, these experiences offer something truly memorable.
Several experiences are currently running daily during the school holidays, and we’ve even introduced summer offers on selected experiences, including our Lynx Experience and Deer Experience.
We created these experiences because we know how much families enjoy getting hands-on with animals. They offer a chance to learn more about the species, ask questions and spend dedicated time with some of the farm’s most fascinating residents.
You can see the full range of experiences at https://hogshawfarm.co.uk/animal-experiences/.
Looking for Things to Do in Buckinghamshire This Weekend With Younger Children?
One of the challenges of planning a family day out is finding somewhere that genuinely caters for younger children while still being enjoyable for adults.
That’s something we think farm parks do particularly well.
Children can burn off energy in the play areas, enjoy animal encounters and explore at their own pace, while parents and grandparents can relax and enjoy the countryside setting.
Many of our visitors come from Aylesbury, Buckingham, Winslow, Bicester, Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes because they want somewhere that feels like a proper day out without having to travel too far.
With tickets available from £13.95 (£6.98 for toddlers and FREE for under 1 yrs), Hogshaw Farm &Wildlife Park is also one of the most affordable days out in Buckinghamshire. And because your admission ticket is valid until closing time, there’s no need to rush. Arrive when it suits you and enjoy the day at your own pace.
Summer Events and Seasonal Fun
One of the reasons families return throughout the year is that every season brings something different.
While spring gave us lambing season, summer is all about making the most of long days outdoors. Tractor trailer rides, summer splash pool, gigantic straw bale pyramid, seasonal farm trail, daily encounters and plenty of free-range fun help create a different experience every time you visit.
Our events calendar is always evolving, so we recommend checking https://hogshawfarm.co.uk/whats-on/ before visiting to see what’s coming up over the weekend and throughout the summer holidays.
There’s usually something new to discover.
Don’t Forget the Practical Details
If you’re planning a visit this weekend, it’s worth checking ticket availability in advance, particularly during busy holiday periods.
You can find the latest admission prices, opening times and visitor information at https://hogshawfarm.co.uk/times-prices/.
We also have free on-site parking, picnic areas, family-friendly food, refreshing drinks and ice creams available from our Farm Kitchen, making it easy to spend the whole day with us. Families who prefer to bring their own picnic are welcome to do so too.
